Peptide Therapy and Chiropractic Nutrition Support Benefits

Peptide Therapy and Chiropractic Nutrition Support

Abstract

Recovering from a car accident, work injury, sports injury, or other physical trauma often requires more than one type of treatment. Injured muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and spinal tissues need proper movement, rehabilitation, adequate protein, vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats to support normal repair.

A protein-forward, anti-inflammatory whole-food diet may help create a healthier internal environment during recovery. Mediterranean-style eating is often a practical choice because it includes lean protein, fish, vegetables, fruit, olive oil, nuts, seeds, and other nutrient-rich foods. A carefully planned ketogenic diet may also be considered for some patients when weight management or metabolic health is part of the treatment plan.

At a multidisciplinary personal injury clinic, nutrition may be combined with integrative chiropractic care, rehabilitation, functional medicine, medical evaluation, and, when medically appropriate, peptide-based therapies. Each part of the plan has a different role. Chiropractic care focuses on movement and biomechanics, rehabilitation rebuilds strength, nutrition supplies the body with needed nutrients, and medical oversight helps determine whether additional treatments are safe and appropriate.

Peptide Therapy and Chiropractic Nutrition Support Benefits

Why Nutrition Matters After a Personal Injury

A car crash or workplace accident can place major stress on the body.

Even when there are no broken bones, an injury can affect:

  • Muscles
  • Tendons
  • Ligaments
  • Spinal joints
  • Intervertebral discs
  • Connective tissue
  • Nerves
  • Fascia
  • Shoulders
  • Hips
  • Knees
  • Neck and lower back

Common personal injury conditions may include whiplash, sprains, strains, joint inflammation, muscle spasms, disc injuries, nerve irritation, and reduced range of motion.

Physical treatment is important, but the body also needs nutrients to perform its normal repair processes.

Protein is especially important because it supplies amino acids. Amino acids help the body maintain and repair muscle and connective tissues and are involved in many healing processes (Arribas-López et al., 2021).

This does not mean that eating extra protein will heal a herniated disc, torn ligament, or spinal injury by itself. Nutrition should be viewed as support for recovery, not a replacement for medical care, chiropractic treatment, or rehabilitation.

What Is a Protein-Forward Diet?

A protein-forward diet simply places greater attention on getting enough quality protein throughout the day.

Protein-rich foods may include:

  • Chicken
  • Turkey
  • Salmon
  • Tuna
  • Sardines
  • Eggs
  • Lean beef
  • Beans
  • Lentils
  • Tofu
  • Greek yogurt when tolerated
  • Nuts
  • Seeds

Protein supplies amino acids that the body uses for muscles, enzymes, connective tissues, immune function, and normal healing.

During injury recovery, patients may also become less active because of pain. Maintaining adequate protein can help support muscle mass while a patient gradually returns to normal activity.

Meal planning should still be individualized. Someone with kidney disease, certain metabolic conditions, digestive problems, or other medical concerns may need different recommendations.

Why Inflammation Matters After an Accident

Inflammation is part of the body’s normal response to injury.

When tissues are injured, inflammatory processes help begin the repair response. However, excessive or ongoing inflammation may contribute to stiffness, discomfort, swelling, and other health problems.

Diet alone cannot eliminate inflammation caused by a serious injury. However, an overall healthy eating pattern may help support metabolic health and reduce factors that contribute to chronic inflammation.

An anti-inflammatory diet commonly emphasizes:

  • Vegetables
  • Berries
  • Apples and other fruits
  • Fish
  • Olive oil
  • Avocados
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Beans
  • Lean protein
  • Herbs and spices
  • Minimally processed foods

At the same time, patients may benefit from reducing excessive amounts of:

  • Refined sugar
  • Sugary drinks
  • Fried foods
  • Highly processed snacks
  • Excessive alcohol
  • Processed meats
  • Foods containing large amounts of refined carbohydrates

The goal is not to create a perfect diet. The goal is to consistently provide the body with foods that support general health while the injured tissues are recovering.

The Mediterranean Diet for Injury Recovery

The Mediterranean diet is one of the most practical anti-inflammatory eating patterns for many patients.

It emphasizes whole and minimally processed foods, including:

  • Fish
  • Chicken
  • Vegetables
  • Fruit
  • Beans
  • Lentils
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Olive oil
  • Whole grains

Research has associated Mediterranean-style eating with improvements in several cardiovascular and metabolic health markers. Studies have also found improvements in some inflammation-related markers (Guasch-Ferré & Willett, 2021; Schwingshackl & Hoffmann, 2014).

For an injured patient, a Mediterranean-style recovery meal could include:

  • Grilled salmon
  • Mixed green vegetables
  • Olive oil
  • Lentils
  • A small serving of whole grains
  • Berries

Another option might include grilled chicken, a Greek-style salad, chickpeas, olive oil, and fruit.

This style of eating is flexible, which can make it easier to follow during a longer rehabilitation program.

Can a Ketogenic Diet Be Used During Injury Care?

A ketogenic diet may also be considered for selected patients.

This eating pattern greatly reduces carbohydrate intake and increases the body’s use of fat and ketones for energy.

Some research suggests that ketogenic diets may improve certain inflammatory and metabolic markers in people with higher weight or obesity. However, the results are not the same for every patient, and ketogenic eating is not automatically better than other healthy eating patterns (Rondanelli et al., 2024).

A whole-food ketogenic eating plan may include:

  • Eggs
  • Salmon
  • Chicken
  • Lean meats
  • Avocado
  • Olive oil
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Broccoli
  • Spinach
  • Low-carbohydrate vegetables

Purposeful Healing DPC also describes combining higher protein intake with healthy fats, vegetables, and low-carbohydrate foods as part of an anti-inflammatory ketogenic approach.

A ketogenic diet should still be medically reviewed.

It may not be appropriate for everyone, especially patients with certain:

  • Kidney problems
  • Liver disorders
  • Gallbladder problems
  • Diabetes medications
  • Lipid abnormalities
  • Pregnancy-related nutritional needs
  • Eating disorders
  • Digestive disorders

Patients recovering from an accident should avoid making major diet changes without discussing them with a qualified healthcare provider.

Nutrition and Peptide Therapy

Peptides are short chains of amino acids. Naturally occurring peptides perform many functions in the body and can participate in hormone activity, cellular signaling, metabolism, and immune processes.

However, the term peptide therapy covers many different substances.

Some peptide-based medications have established medical uses and FDA approval. Other peptides promoted for muscle repair, joint recovery, anti-aging, fat loss, or regenerative purposes remain experimental.

This distinction is especially important in personal injury care.

Peptide therapy should never be presented as a guaranteed way to repair damaged spinal discs, tendons, ligaments, nerves, or joints.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has identified safety concerns or limited safety information for several substances used in compounded peptide products, including BPC-157, CJC-1295, ipamorelin acetate, injectable GHK-Cu, and others.

When a peptide-based treatment is being considered, medical evaluation and supervision are important.

Why Nutrition Still Matters With Peptide Therapy

Peptides do not replace the nutrients needed for normal tissue repair.

A simple way to understand this is to think about a construction project.

A signal may tell the crew that repairs need to happen, but workers still need building materials.

The body also needs building materials.

Protein provides amino acids. Vegetables and fruits supply vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and plant compounds. Healthy fats support cell membranes and many normal biological functions.

For this reason, several peptide-focused nutrition programs emphasize:

  • Adequate protein
  • Vegetables
  • Whole foods
  • Healthy fats
  • Hydration
  • Appropriate calorie intake

Peptide therapy, when medically appropriate, should therefore be one part of a larger recovery plan rather than a stand-alone solution.

Integrative Chiropractic Care After a Personal Injury

Chiropractic care addresses a different side of the recovery process.

Nutrition focuses on the body’s internal environment. Chiropractic care and rehabilitation focus more directly on movement and musculoskeletal function.

After an accident, a chiropractor may evaluate:

  • Spinal movement
  • Joint restrictions
  • Posture
  • Muscle tension
  • Range of motion
  • Movement patterns
  • Biomechanics
  • Functional limitations

Depending on the injury and examination findings, treatment may include:

  • Chiropractic adjustments
  • Joint mobilization
  • Soft-tissue therapy
  • Corrective exercise
  • Spinal rehabilitation
  • Mobility exercises
  • Strengthening
  • Postural training
  • Functional movement rehabilitation

Care should always be modified to match the injury.

For example, a patient with acute trauma, a fracture, severe neurological symptoms, or certain spinal conditions may need imaging, specialist evaluation, or medical management before some forms of treatment are appropriate.

Why Chiropractic Care and Nutrition Can Work Together

Chiropractic care and nutrition address different needs.

A chiropractic treatment may help improve joint movement or support better biomechanics.

A healthy diet provides protein and nutrients needed for normal biological function.

Rehabilitation gradually restores strength and movement.

When appropriate, medical therapies may address additional health concerns.

This creates a broader recovery strategy.

No single part of care replaces the others.

For example, a patient recovering from whiplash may receive chiropractic and rehabilitative care for neck movement while also following a whole-food nutrition plan designed to provide adequate protein and support healthy weight and metabolic function.

Dr. Alex Jimenez’s Integrative Injury Care Approach

Dr. Alexander Jimenez, DC, APRN, FNP-BC, CCST, CFMP, IFMCP, ATN, has published clinical observations emphasizing the value of approaching musculoskeletal and personal injury recovery from several directions.

His clinical model combines areas such as:

  • Chiropractic care
  • Functional medicine
  • Personal injury care
  • Rehabilitation
  • Nutrition
  • Metabolic health
  • Medical evaluation
  • Lifestyle modification

This approach recognizes that injury recovery often involves more than one painful body part.

A person involved in a motor vehicle accident may have neck pain, back pain, reduced mobility, poor sleep, inflammation, muscle weakness, weight concerns, or other health conditions at the same time.

The purpose of multidisciplinary care is to identify these different factors and build an individualized treatment plan.

Medical Oversight With Dr. Maria Guadalupe Cardenas, MD

Medical oversight is also an important part of multidisciplinary injury care.

Dr. Maria Guadalupe Cardenas, MD, is identified by Injury Medical Clinic PA as a board-certified internal medicine physician with more than 40 years of medical experience.

The practice lists Dr. Cardenas as its medical director and collaborative physician, with Texas medical license J2933 and practice-listed NPI #1164426749.

She works with Dr. Alex Jimenez at Injury Medical Clinic PA in El Paso, Texas.

This type of multidisciplinary structure brings together different areas of healthcare.

Dr. Jimenez contributes chiropractic, family nurse practitioner, functional medicine, spinal trauma, rehabilitation, and injury-care experience. Dr. Cardenas contributes internal medicine experience and medical direction.

The team can therefore integrate:

  • Chiropractic care
  • Internal medicine oversight
  • Functional medicine
  • Personal injury care
  • Rehabilitation
  • Nutritional strategies
  • Musculoskeletal evaluation
  • Metabolic health management
  • Related medical services

This model can be helpful when an injured patient also has medical concerns that may affect recovery.

Personal Injury Care Should Address More Than Pain

Pain relief is important, but a successful recovery plan should also look at function.

Important questions may include:

  • Can the patient turn the neck normally?
  • Has spinal mobility improved?
  • Can the person walk, lift, bend, or sit comfortably?
  • Has muscle strength returned?
  • Is sleep improving?
  • Can the patient return safely to work?
  • Can normal activities be performed without major limitations?

Nutrition supports the body throughout this process, but rehabilitation and proper clinical care help restore function.

This is why personal injury treatment often works best as a coordinated process instead of a single procedure.

A Simple Recovery-Focused Plate

Patients do not need complicated meals to eat well during recovery.

A simple plate can start with protein.

Add vegetables, a healthy fat, and an appropriate carbohydrate source based on the patient’s health goals.

Examples include:

Mediterranean-style meal

Grilled salmon, roasted vegetables, lentils, olive oil, and berries.

High-protein meal

Chicken breast, vegetables, beans, avocado, and fruit.

Lower-carbohydrate meal

Grilled chicken, spinach, broccoli, avocado, olive oil, and almonds.

Ketogenic-style meal

Salmon, leafy greens, avocado, olive oil, and nuts.

Hydration is also important, especially when patients are increasing protein intake, exercising, receiving rehabilitation, or living in hot climates.

Supporting the Whole Recovery Process

Recovering from an automobile accident, workplace injury, or other musculoskeletal trauma often takes time.

There is rarely one treatment that solves every part of the problem.

A protein-forward, anti-inflammatory whole-food diet may help supply the nutrients the body needs for normal repair and metabolic function.

Mediterranean-style eating offers a flexible, evidence-supported way to emphasize whole foods, protein, vegetables, healthy fats, and fiber.

A ketogenic diet may also be considered for selected patients when appropriate.

Integrative chiropractic care can address movement, joint function, spinal mechanics, and musculoskeletal limitations. Rehabilitation can rebuild strength and stability. Functional medicine may evaluate metabolic and nutritional factors. Medical oversight helps determine whether medications, peptide-based therapies, or other treatments are appropriate.

At Injury Medical Clinic PA in El Paso, the collaborative model involving Dr. Alex Jimenez and Dr. Maria Guadalupe Cardenas reflects this broader approach to personal injury care.

The goal is not simply to treat pain.

The goal is to help the patient recover mobility, strength, function, and overall health as safely as possible.

Before starting peptide therapy, changing medications, beginning a ketogenic diet, adding supplements, or making major changes to your injury treatment plan, you should speak with your physician or another qualified healthcare provider.
