Pain along the pelvis and groin area is referred to as osteitis pubis. Osteitis pubis develops via the inflammation of the pubic symphysis, or the joints of the significant pelvic bones located at the front of the pelvis.
The pubic symphysis is a lean joint that generally provides quite minimal movement. The joint retains the two sides of the pelvis together in the front, where they link in the sacrum at the side of the pelvis.

Osteitis Pubis Symptoms

Osteitis pubis is commonly characterized by pain in the front of the pelvis. Other causes of pelvic pain, like a sprain or a strain, diagnosed are often confused as osteitis pubis. When painful symptoms are reported by many patients the pain happens in the center of the pelvis. Symptoms of osteitis pubis include fatigue and limping.

Osteitis Pubis Causes

For a number of patients, the pubic symphysis itself may become inflamed and irritated, causing the well-known symptoms of osteitis pubis. Other common causes of pubis include: pregnancy; abdominal or gynecologic interventions sports injuries like football and hockey; and injury or trauma from injuries.

Osteitis pubis is known as the inflammation of the pubis symphysis which causes various degrees of abdominal, pelvic, and groin pain. Indicators of osteitis pubis include discomfort and pain in the area of the pelvis when engaging in physical activities, and lack of flexibility. A number of causes, such as sports injuries, can cause osteitis pubis. Fortunately, rest can help cure this health dilemma.

Osteitis Pubis Diagnosis

Diagnosis of osteitis pubis generally involves x-rays that show an irregular pubic symphysis with sclerotic, or thick, bone borders as a consequence of chronic inflammation. An MRI evaluation is not required, but it helps establish a view of the inflammation of the bone and the joint.

Further tests may be conducted to ensure there’s no disease in the bone which could also be causing symptoms like osteitis pubis. This complication is more of a concern for those patients who have had surgery or for people who are more inclined to suffer from infections.

Osteitis Pubis Treatment

The most recommended treatment for osteitis pubis is rest. Since inflammation is the issue, the body only needs the joint to be able to cure properly through rest. Other treatment, however, includes:

Rest

An important treatment for osteitis pubis is rest since this will permit the extreme inflammation in the pelvis and groin to diminish. For most patients, rest is the only treatment necessary for their osteitis pubis. If the pain is severe, a cane or crutches might provide additional aid.

Ice and Heat

Ice packs and heating pads are among the most commonly used remedies for inflammation. Make certain to follow your healthcare professional’s directions before utilizing ice and heat for osteitis pubis.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care is a well known, alternative treatment choice for many health issues, including automobile accident injuries and osteitis pubis. A doctor of chiropractic, or chiropractor, will use a variety of techniques and treatment methods, to help restore strength, and flexibility while rest is required to subside the painful symptoms. Chiropractic care may help fix any misalignments that might be causing pain and discomfort.

Drugs and/or Medicines

Nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs and/or medications, commonly referred to as NSAIDs, are common prescriptions provided for patients with hip pain caused by problems like arthritis, bursitis, and tendonitis.

Treatment of osteitis pubis may take some time to completely alleviate the painful symptoms. Although attempts to heal pubis with cortisone injections have been examined, the usage of medication and/or drugs is not demonstrated to be better compared to the treatment options listed above.

Surgical interventions are usually not required for individuals with osteitis pubis. The reach of our information is restricted to spinal injuries and to chiropractic and ailments. To discuss the subject matter, please don’t hesitate to ask Dr. Jimenez or contact us at 915-850-0900 .

Additional Topics: Acute Back Pain

Back pain is the most prevalent cause of disability worldwide and the second most common reason for doctor office visits, outnumbered only by upper-respiratory infections. Approximately 80 percent of the population will experience back pain at least once throughout their life. The spine is a complex structure made up of bones, joints, ligaments, and muscles, among other soft tissues. Because of this, injuries and/or aggravated conditions, such as herniated discs, can eventually lead to symptoms of back pain. Sports injuries or automobile accident injuries are often the most frequent cause of back pain, however, sometimes the simplest of movements can have painful results. Fortunately, alternative treatment options, such as chiropractic care, can help ease back pain through the use of spinal adjustments and manual manipulations, ultimately improving pain relief.
