Learn how patient wellness, particularly hormonal health, impacts daily life and contributes to a balanced, healthy lifestyle.
Welcome to this educational overview on optimizing your practice through integrative hormone therapy. As a clinician with a diverse background in chiropractic, nursing, and functional medicine, I’ve seen firsthand how a comprehensive, evidence-based approach can transform patients’ lives and the success of practice. In this post, I will guide you through the essential pillars for building a thriving hormone-optimization service. We’ll start by exploring the foundational importance of understanding your “why”—the core motivation driving your practice. From there, we will delve into the untapped value of your existing patient database, the necessity of becoming a true expert in hormone pellet therapy, and the critical role of utilizing comprehensive business and medical resources. I will also map out the patient journey from initial screening through follow-up, providing practical strategies to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Finally, we will discuss the power of goal-setting and how to commit to and implement these strategies fully. This journey is informed by the latest findings from leading researchers and my own clinical observations, demonstrating how integrative care, including chiropractic principles, forms the bedrock of this transformative treatment model.
The first and most crucial step in this entire process is to know your “why.” What I mean by that is, what is the fundamental reason you are here, exploring this path? What drove you to seek out new modalities? What are you hoping to gain?
If you don’t pause to truly understand your motivation, the information and techniques you learn might not stick. You could return to your practice and fall back into old routines, and this powerful therapy will seem like just another passing idea. So, ask yourself:
Your “why” is your anchor. For instance, in my own practice, we often encourage clinicians to perform at least one new palpation a day. Why? Because you must get the knowledge out of your head and into your hands. Repetition builds confidence and mastery. Your “why” fuels the drive for repetition. It’s what pushes you to refine your skills, knowing that your patients’ well-being and your professional license depend on your expertise.
Think about your long-term vision. If you’ve been in practice for 10 years, where do you want to be in the next 10? Do you want to expand to multiple sites? Sell your practice? Or deepen your impact on your community? Without a focused “why,” your efforts will be scattered. With it, you have a powerful, guiding force.
The second pillar is to understand the immense value of your current patient database. Many of you specialize in diverse fields—primary care, OB-GYN, neurology, plastic surgery, and, like myself, chiropractic. Your existing patients, the ones who already trust you for their care, represent your greatest opportunity.
Leading research consistently shows that acquiring a new patient can be five to 25 times more expensive than retaining an existing one (Gallo, 2014). The probability of successfully offering a new service to an existing patient is significantly higher than the probability of converting a cold lead. These are individuals who are already in your office for annual check-ups, sick visits, spinal adjustments, or wellness consultations. They have an established relationship with you.
From my clinical experience, I’ve observed that patients seeking chiropractic care for musculoskeletal issues are often also silently suffering from symptoms of hormonal imbalance—fatigue, joint pain, and poor sleep. By integrating hormone screening into our existing protocols, we don’t just add a service; we provide a more holistic solution. You bring profound value to these patients by addressing underlying issues they may not have even thought to mention.
Therefore, instead of focusing all your resources on external marketing, begin by thinking about the people already walking through your doors. We are here to provide business solutions to help you acquire new patients, but we are also here to help you offer these transformative therapies to your existing patient community. Don’t miss this opportunity.
To succeed, you must commit to becoming a true expert in hormone therapy. This goes far beyond simply learning the mechanics of a procedure. When I first started, I immersed myself in every aspect of the science and the technique.
Expertise begins with understanding the complete clinical picture. It involves:
We are not guessing. We are bringing precision and evidence-based medicine to the forefront. When you can sit with a patient and say, “You’re suffering from these symptoms, and your lab work confirms a deficiency. We have a precise, individualized solution for you today,” you build unparalleled trust.
It’s also crucial to understand that not all pellets are created equal. You’ve likely heard from various researchers this weekend about the nuances of hormone delivery. The goal should always be a pain-free, bruise-free, and extrusion-free procedure. This level of excellence is achieved through a combination of superior materials and refined technique.
The pellets we use have been granted a patent. To receive a patent, a product must be both unique and beneficial. This distinction places our methodology in a class of its own. The pellets are designed for optimal, steady-state hormone release, avoiding the dramatic peaks and troughs seen with other delivery methods.
The insertion technique is just as important. The pellet should be placed deep in the subcutaneous adipose tissue. This requires skill and precision. Will it slow you down at first? Absolutely. But the question you must ask yourself is: “If I were the patient, would I feel secure and confident in the hands of a practitioner with my current skill set?” Strive to be the practitioner you would choose for yourself. This means getting the dose right, using the right pellet, and mastering the right technique.
You are not alone on this journey. A common misstep I see in practice is failing to utilize all available medical and business solutions. We provide a complete support system to ensure your success, including:
Think about the patient experience. When they finish a consultation with you, what is the next step? Do they leave with a clear plan, an informative brochure, or a link to a patient portal? Or do they leave with more questions than answers? Providing a single, tangible piece of information can make all the difference. Make sure you are using all the resources at your disposal to create a seamless and supportive patient journey.
To run an efficient and effective hormone therapy practice, you must have a deep understanding of the patient journey. This process begins long before the first consultation.
The journey starts with screening every single patient. I cannot overstate this. Often, practitioners tell me they want to “sell hormones.” I tell them, “I want you to screen patients.” The goal is to identify those who are suffering and help them understand the underlying cause.
Let me share a personal story. A few years ago, I wasn’t feeling like myself—I was tired and foggy. I was a man in my 50s, but I felt much older. It was only through a screening process that my own hormonal imbalances were identified. During that same time, my wife, a 47-year-old former college athlete, started saying she didn’t feel right. She wasn’t overweight, didn’t have sexual dysfunction, and didn’t fit the “classic” profile. She just felt “off.” After some convincing, she finally got her labs done. Her testosterone level was less than 12 ng/dL. How could a patient’s level be so low that it was practically undetectable? It was because no one had thought to look.
This is why you must screen everyone, regardless of whether they are there for a well check, a sick visit, a chiropractic adjustment, or a web inquiry.
Do’s and Don’ts of Screening:
Once the labs are back, the consultation is the next step. I’ve coached thousands of providers, and a common pitfall is overcomplicating the consult. An effective consultation should be concise, ideally around 15-20 minutes. Patients are not looking for an hour-long biochemistry educational post. They are looking for answers and hope.
The consult follows a simple, powerful formula:
They are desperately looking to you for help. Can you help them with their brain fog, joint pain, or difficulty sleeping? When you provide them with a clear, confident plan, you give them the most powerful thing of all: hope.
When patients ask about cost, frame the conversation around value. Instead of just quoting a price, you might say, “Yes, the program has an investment, and for that, we can help reduce your joint pain, improve your sleep, and restore your energy.” You are transforming lives, not just selling a product.
Follow-up appointments for returning patients should be even more efficient, lasting at most 15 minutes. They are coming in for their next insertion, and while they are happy to see you, they also value their time.
The final two steps are to set clear, actionable goals and commit to the full implementation of this system. Whether you are currently doing four procedures a month or 400, there is always room for growth and refinement.
What are your objectives?
Set a goal, and then fully deploy the system to achieve it. Partial implementation leads to partial results. When practices fail, it’s rarely because the medicine doesn’t work. It’s because the system wasn’t fully executed. They didn’t screen every patient. They didn’t use the business resources. They didn’t commit to mastering the technique.
If you feel stuck, your first step is to ask for help. Our practice specialists are here to partner with you. We can come alongside you and help you build out your pricing, integrate the system into your current model (whether it’s insurance-based or cash), and troubleshoot challenges. If you commit just a few hours a week to focusing on this, you will see remarkable results.
My goal today was to give you a clear, actionable framework.
You came here for a reason. You are seeking to elevate your practice and provide a higher level of care. My advice is to go back to your clinic, take a deep breath, and start. Screen one patient. Get their labs. Get the knowledge from your head into your hands. You have a complete medical and business solution at your fingertips. Commit to deploying it fully, and you will not only transform your practice—you will transform lives.
